Beyond the Dunes – Soft pastel online workshop
A glimpse of blue sea beyond sunlit dunes is one of those subjects that immediately makes me want to reach for my pastels.
For this seascape pastel workshop we’ll create a light-filled coastal scene with soft dune grasses leading us towards the distant sea.
The challenge is not lots of detail. Instead, we’ll concentrate on colour, distance and the subtle changes that create a feeling of space.
During the workshop we’ll explore:
- fresh coastal colour
- creating distance with colour and value
- soft transitions in sky, sea and landscape
- suggesting dune grasses without describing every blade
- using sharper and softer marks to lead the eye
- creating a feeling of sunlight and open space

Recording: Available within 24 hours, with access for at least 12 months
