Taster session – Evening light in a Sketchbook – soft pastel workshop

£12.00

Evening light in a Sketchbook – soft pastel 2026.

During our hour together, I will take you through my own process — from the first sketchbook studies through to a more resolved pastel sketch — so you can see how I simplify the scene, choose colour, and build the feeling of evening light step by step. This is a recording of a Live session to give you a taster of the online sessions. They are edited to focus on the important elements but there’s always a few quirky camera moments or tech hiccup to keep me on my toes and you all entertained.

Description

It’s all recorded so you can repeat and work at your own time and pace. When you buy the workshop, please access the link within the website receipt for more information in your account on my website.

You can paint along with me or just watch me and absorb the process to repeat at a later date. I suggest watching and drawing a second time, as it’s hard to do both things well, in my experience. I’m using a sketchbook which is A5, A4 when opened ( approx 20 x 30 cm ) or you can use Pastelmat for a similar effect use Uart 400 and Unison Colour pastels. You don’t have to use sanded papers but they make a huge difference to the vibrancy of your artwork when used with good quality pigments like Unison Colour.

There is something very special about that quiet moment when evening light begins to soften across the landscape.

On one of my favourite local walks, the cow parsley catches the last warmth of the day and seems to glow against the fading greens beyond. In this session, I would love to share that atmosphere with you and show you how I approach capturing that fleeting light in soft pastel.

If you have ever wanted to take your pastels outside but felt unsure where to begin, this is the perfect place to start.
