Mother Ivey’s Bay- Online Art Workshops – draw along in real time

I will be using Unison Colour Soft Pastels to create a seascape. We’ll spend time covering mark making and building up the painting with layers of wetted pastels. This workshop focuses on seaspray and creating a beach. This workshop can be bought as an individual session or part of my discounted, Autumn Series.

Description

Mother Ivey’s Bay soft pastel workshop is the fourth in my Autumn Series of workshops. I’m taking you to one of my favourite Cornish views from Mother Ivey’s Bay. This crashing wave gives us the perfect opportunity to develop your techniques in creating sparkling water and glistening rocks. If you love sea-spray, you’ll love the techniques covered in this workshop. The recording is hosted in a dedicated Facebook Group or you can access the recording in other formats, you prefer.

You can paint along with me or just watch me and absorb the process to repeat at a later date. I suggest watching and drawing a second time, as it’s hard to do both things well, in my experience. I’m using ( approx 20 x 30 cm ) Fisher 400 (similar to Uart400) and Unison Colour pastels, learn more about the workshops here. You don’t have to use sanded papers but they make a huge difference to the vibrancy of your artwork when used with good quality pigments like Unison Colour.

When you buy the workshop, I will invite you to the Facebook Group via a link in the website receipt. If you are accessing it Live, the Facebook opens the day before the workshop. If it’s as a recording, the Facebook Group has the recorded video, bespoke colour chart and all the reference materials within the Facebook Group for you to access listed under “Announcements” within the Facebook Group.

Nina’s workshops amazing. This one particularly covers pastel painting a seashore. Her style of teaching is engaging and warm but still gets across the technicalities of painting sea, sand and rocks

  2. Judith

I discovered Nina’s workshops through the Unison 5 day pastel challenge and I am hooked. I found her way of teaching very easy to follow. The set up in her studio is great and I just love the enthusiastic way Nina delivers . I had never really used pastels before but now with the help of Nina’s Autumn series I am learning so many new techniques. Because the workshops are recorded it is easy to go back over them and stop and start to really get the feel of it at your own pace. I would fully recommend having a go, it certainly got my “mojo” back. Thank you Nina.

Love that your pastelling mojo has returned. That’s such great news. I have loved working with Unison Colour, they’ve been such a tonic, fabulous pastels and lovely people too. I loved their 5 Day Challenges too. See you on the next workshop. Nina x

All of Nina’s workshops are incredible. She is a highly talented pastel artist and tutor. She treats everyone, both during her workshops and on her Facebook page as friends. During the excellent value 2 hour workshops she talks you through the procedure, gives really useful hints and tips and also answers questions put by the group. Nina makes everyone in the group feel valued, and nothing is to much trouble. I can’t wait to sign up to Nina’s next series of workshops. They are outstanding value, great fun and a wonderful learning tool too.

Nina Squire’s workshops are simply amazing. I enrolled on the summer and Autumn series. I have learned so much. Pastels are my favourite medium. Nina explains the processes very well. Is always there to give a guiding hand. I also like the fact that the sessions are recorded. The live sessions are great to watch listen and learn and then to go back to them to try out the sessions. The pastel community group Nina has created is a friendly bunch of like minded people who enjoy pastelling. I always recommend Nina’s workshop to my pastel friends. Also it’s always nice looking at the work of fellow pastelists to see how they interpret their paintings. I love Nina’s pastel community.

    • Nina Squire

Thank you, I appreciate your comments and I agree, the community is just as lovely as the happy pastelling we enjoy. Looking forward to the next session. Nina

Nina’s workshops are always excellent with lots of useful hints and tips and inspiring choice of reference photos. This workshop in particular helped me to be more daring with colours, especially the darks and focus on the parts of the image that attract you. (Another Nina tip)

Thank you, Cathy, I’m glad you are enjoying all the hints and tips. The Unison Colour pastels are so saturated in colour and those darks are just gorgeous! Happy pastelling

I have painted along with Nina on many Lessons and the Five-Day Challenge with Unison. It’s nice to get up at 4:30 am EST. Its so quiet and allows me to follow along with no distractions except from my Studio Cat, Charcoal. Nina is a great teacher and has a wonderful spirit. She explains the lessons well, the setup, the drawing, what pastels are needed, and methods that can be used for any painting. Nina’s lessons are great for the Beginner as well as for Advanced Artists. And She’s so funny! I have a dump truck load of fun on each lesson.

Nina’s workshop was amazing. I had stopped painting for a while and she has really helped me to get going again.
The class was easy to follow and then had the added bonus of being able to replay at my own pace.
I enjoyed trying out wetting the pastels and the effect it can give. Also the importance of the right paper to get the right effect.
I have enjoyed seeing everyone’s work.
Such a friendly and supportive group.

Loved this w/shop, Nina chats as she demonstrates & answers the live questions & comments that pop up throughout the demo.

Her enthusiasm for the subject, her passion for pastels & her generosity in sharing her hints and tips are encouraging for every level of expertise.
Especially helpful for those with a lost mojo!

I wholeheartedly recommend Nina’s pastel workshops and so happy I signed up for her whole Autumn series. The workshops are well structured and her friendly nature and wonderful teaching gives me confidence to move through the various stages of the pastel painting to the final piece. I enjoy watching the video and listening to her top tips live, then another day starting my own pastel painting in my own time in the comfort of my own home. I look forward to more!

I discovered Nina’s workshops during the Pandemic and she taught me in her wonderful workshops how to paint with pastels. I discovered that I really loved it. Nina is a very good and passionate teacher and she shares her best tips with her students. It’s a very friendly and helpful community and I am always looking forward to start her workshops. You can watch and paint in your own pace. The work Mother Ivey’s Bay is one of my favourites! There is nothing better to clear your mind than colourful pastelling!
